The use of eSIM is finally in here in Nigeria. Just few weeks after the launch of MTN eSIM, 9mobile becomes the second Nigerian telcos network to partake in this new technology, 9mobile eSIM.
This was made known in a press release on Wednesday, 5th of August 2020. The company describes this new innovation as a software-based digital chip that comes along with a device directly embedded by the manufacturer. “eSIM replaces the traditional physical plastic SIM card for compatible devices and brings a whole new spectrum of benefits and possibilities” the statement said.
Unlike MTN eSIM that has no freebies attached to it, 9mobile gives you a whooping free 7GB data once you got it's eSIM activated on your device. Before we go into that, let's shed more light on what the term "eSIM" means.
What is a eSIM?
eSIM simply means embedded SIM card. What this means is that, you don't longer need your usual physical SIM card as you have got one already preinstalled for you inside your device. This is cool right? But the reality is that, eSim is still new and most devices don't support it, and if it does support it, it also takes the support of your telecommunication provider to be to able to use it.

On how customers can acquire the eSIM, Onafowokan said, “Customers can walk into any of our select 9mobile Experience Centres to request an eSIM activation. A QR code will be provided to scan and download an eSIM profile and perform the usual SIM registration.” Yeah! That's pretty much all you have to do!
